Hop Selection Comes to Life at Maresme Brewing

Last week, we gathered at Maresme Brewing in Barcelona for an afternoon that truly captured what hop selection is all about.
More than 30 brewers from across Europe joined us, speaking four different languages (Portuguese, English, Catalan, Spanish, and even a touch of French), all with the same goal: to smell, compare, and discuss this year’s Indie Hops lots selected by Hops Company.

From 1 to 4 PM, the brewhouse turned into a sensory lab.
Tables lined with more than 15 distinct hop lots, including four different Strata selections that absolutely blew everyone’s mind.
Brewers shared notes, discussed their brewing plans, and debated which profiles best fit their lagers, IPAs, or hazy recipes.
It wasn’t just a tasting, it was a masterclass in nuance.

And of course, Maresme Brewing made it even more special.
Guests could taste three fresh hop beers brewed just a week after harvest, featuring Lórien®, Strata®, and Luminosa®, plus a fourth beer and a hop water made with Abstrax extracts, showing how aroma innovation can go beyond the brewhouse.

After hours of hop talk and sticky fingers, we moved outside for barbecue, beers, and live DJ music, the perfect way to close a day that blended technique, community, and creativity.

This was the second year Hops Company organized such a large and exclusive event, bringing brewers from all over to connect directly with the hops that will define their next releases.
